WEST ORANGE – In a thrilling Essex County Tournament (ECT) semifinal matchup, No. 20 Seton Hall Prep edged out St. Benedict’s with a 70-66 victory, securing their spot in the championship game. The Pirates' balanced offensive attack and defensive resilience were pivotal in overcoming a formidable opponent.

Senior guard Dylan Guzzardo led Seton Hall Prep with 22 points, showcasing his scoring prowess by netting 15 points in the second half. His ability to penetrate the defense and convert crucial baskets kept the Pirates ahead during pivotal moments. Forward Alex Ante contributed significantly with 12 points and eight rebounds, dominating the paint and providing second-chance opportunities. Guards Primo Delgado and Anthony Gonzalez added 11 points each, displaying versatility and clutch shooting under pressure.

St. Benedict’s mounted a fierce comeback, spearheaded by Michai White, who delivered an impressive 34-point performance, including 17 points in the fourth quarter. White's offensive explosion brought the Gray Bees within striking distance, but Seton Hall Prep's defense held firm in the final moments. Chase Bray also made notable contributions for St. Benedict’s, adding 11 points to the scoreboard.

Seton Hall Prep established an early lead, capitalizing on defensive stops and efficient ball movement to build an 11-point advantage by the end of the first quarter. However, St. Benedict’s resilience was evident as they chipped away at the deficit, setting the stage for a tightly contested second half.

In the final minutes, the Pirates' experience and composure were on full display. Key defensive stands and timely free-throw shooting ensured that Seton Hall Prep maintained their lead, despite St. Benedict’s relentless efforts.

With this victory, Seton Hall Prep advances to the ECT finals, where they will compete for their 20th county title against Payne Tech on Saturday. The Pirates aim to continue their strong tournament performance and secure the championship.
